Poems by Minette Quick - inspired from A Course In Miracles
There is no illness of the body apart from the mind.
~Socrates 500 B.C.
It is not the bacteria, it is the terrain.
~Louis Pasteur (on his death bed )
Every part of the personality you do not love will become
hostile to you.
~Carl Jung
What great doctors do is awaken the doctor within.
~Albert Schweitzer
Beloved,
to thee I raise my whole being, a vessel emptied of self,
Accept Lord, this my emptiness, and so fill me with Thyself -
Thy Light, Thy Love, Thy Life, that these Thy precious Gifts
may radiate through me and over-flow the chalice of my heart
into
the hearts of all with whom I come in contact this day
revealing unto them the beauty of Thy Joy and Wholeness and
the serenity of Thy Peace which nothing can destroy.
~Francis Nuttall
You know that love fulfills the law but do you not realise that
all the emotions opposite to love violate the law and you work
against all creation instead of with it? Your whole being is
thrown out of alignment so that you are out of harmony with life
and when you are out of harmony your whole being reacts
negatively. So often this is the cause of ill health.
~Eileen Caddy. The Dawn of Change.
The basic law underlying all occult healing, may be stated as
follows:
All disease is the result of inhibited soul life, and that is
true of all forms in all kingdoms. The art of the healer
consists in releasing the soul, so that its life can flow
through the aggregate of organisms which constitute any
particular form.
~Alice A Bailey. Esoteric Healing.
The health specialist will work according to the basic
assumptions that have emerged from the newly developing field of
holistic medicine. There are four assumptions:
1. The individual person exists on many levels. These include
the physical, the emotional, the mental, and the spiritual. All
of them are equally important in achieving health. None is 'more
real' than any other. One may choose to concentrate on a single
aspect first with a particular patient, but all must be taken
into account.
2 The patient has self-healing and self repair systems and they
must be regarded as crucial in the prevention and cure of
disease.
3 The patient must be actively and knowledgeably involved in his
own treatment and in designing a programme to work towards
health.
4 Each person is a unique individual and must be met and
responded to as such.
~Lawrence LeShan. Holistic Health
It is your thoughts alone that cause you pain. Nothing external
to your mind can hurt or injure you in any way. There is no
cause beyond yourself that can reach down and bring oppression.
No one but yourself affects you. There is nothing in the world
that has the power to make you ill or sad, or weak or frail. But
it is you who have the power to dominate all things you see by
merely recognising what you are......all illness is mental
illness.... all disease comes from a state of unforgiveness.
~A Course in Miracles
Health is inner peace. Therefore, healing is letting go of fear.
To make changing the body our goal is to fail to recognise that
our single goal is peace of mind.
~G.G.Jampolsky. Teach Only Love
Conflict cannot exist where truth is in expression; it occurs
only in the presence of dishonesty. Where truth is denied,
self-destruct mechanisms go into effect. People get sick because
they are sick of them selves; they die because they do not
forgive.
Disease is not caused by germs, toxins, viruses, excessive
radioactivity, microbes, bacteria or by any other physical
agent. Such things are ever present; thousands of them pass
daily through every healthy human body. Such agents are only
destructive when they do not pass through the human body but are
retained instead.
There is only one reason why germs or toxins are retained in a
human system: because present in that human system is an evil
spirit. To the degree that an evil spirit is entertained and
made welcome in an individual's life, his or her body will
disease. This is a regulatory mechanism, designed to deprive
destructive spirits of physical bodies.
Evil spirits are negative attitudes, destructive emotions rooted
in fear. Some of the more common evil spirits are resentment,
anger, shame, guilt, anxiety, hatred, greed, revenge, jealousy.
All thinly disguised forms of fear, their presence in a human
system gives harmful physical agents something to attach
themselves to.
~Ken Carey. Vision
The secret of all healing, really, is in the ability of the
consciousness to relax and to flow and allow its programmed
parts to come back together, which they will do quite naturally,
given half a chance........Healing the physical form ultimately
does nothing, unless there is a complementary change of
consciousness.......If this does not take place, the physical
form will rather rapidly return to the state it was in. And it
will most likely return to a worse state; because there will be
added to that, the deeper sense of despair that, " Oh gosh, now
I thought the thing had been taken care of and here it is
again."
~David Spangler.Lecture entitled 'Healing : Good and Evil'
I do not think we cure anyone! People cure themselves. I think
that with God we provide an environment in which healing can
take place. ~Robert Bradley, M.D.
Make
me a channel of your peace
Where there is hatred let me bring your love;
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord
And where there's doubt the true faith in you.
O master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is despair in life let me bring hope,
Where there is darkness only light
And where there's sadness ever joy.
O master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your peace
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned
In giving to all men that we receive
And in dying that we are born to eternal life.
~Prayer of St Francis of Assisi
As you recognise and accept your true relationship with Me, and
do it as simply as a child without any complications, so will
your whole life be filled with joy and thanksgiving. Then no
fear can enter, and you will appear to live a charmed life, and
to be fully protected, for where there is no fear, there is full
protection. It is fear that opens the door to danger and leaves
you vulnerable. Therefore banish fear, let My peace and love
infil and enfold you, and give eternal thanks.
~Eileen Caddy. Opening Doors Within.
When the body is sick it is in some way lacking the light. All
disease will in due time be traced to this lack.
~White Eagle. Jesus Teacher and Healer.
If
the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to
man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he
sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.
~William Blake
Self-surrender is the surrender of all self-concern. It cannot
be done, it happens when you realise your true nature..... The
first steps in self-acceptance are not at all pleasant, for what
one sees is not a happy sight. One needs all the courage to go
further. What helps is silence. Look at yourself in total
silence, do not describe yourself.
~I Am That Nisargadatta Maharaj
The LOVE PROJECT principles are:
- Be the change you want to see happen, instead of trying to
change everyone else.
- Receive all persons, including yourself, as beautiful exactly
where they are.
- Provide others with the opportunity to give.
- Perceive problems as opportunities.
- Have no expectations, but rather, abundant expectancy.
- Create your own reality consciously, rather than
living as if you had no control over your life.
REMEMBER: Choice is the life process. In every moment of
awareness, you are free to make a new choice.
~"The Love Project" Arleen Lorrance
Try to be, only to be. The all-important word is 'try'. Allot
enough time daily for sitting quietly and trying, just trying,
to go beyond the personality, with its addictions and
obsessions. Don't ask how, it cannot be explained. You just keep
on trying until you succeed. If you persevere, there can be no
failure. What matters supremely is sincerity, earnestness; you
must really have had surfeit of being the person you are, now
see the urgent need of being free of this unnecessary
self-identification with a bundle of memories and habits. This
steady resistance against the unnecessary is the secret of
success.
~I Am That Nisargadatta Maharaj
We do not see things as they are.
We see them as we are.
~The Talmud
I am a point of light within a greater Light.
I am a strand of loving energy within
the stream of Love divine
I am a point of sacrificial Fire,
focussed within the fiery Will of God
And thus I stand.
I am a way by which men may achieve.
I am a source of strength, enabling them to stand.
I am a beam of light, shining upon their way
And thus I stand.
And standing thus, revolve
And tread this way the ways of men,
And know the ways of God.
And thus I stand.
The Affirmation of the Disciple
~Alice Baily
RULES FOR BEING HUMAN
1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it
will be yours for the entire period this time around.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time
informal school called life. Each day in this school you will
have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons
or think them irrelevant and stupid.
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of
trial and error experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as
much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately
"works".
4. A lesson is repeated until it is learned. A lesson will be
presented to you in various forms until you have learned it.
When you have learned it, you can then go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that
does not contain its lessons. If you are alive there are lessons
to be learned.
6. "There" is no better than "here". When your "there" has
become a "here" you will simply obtain another "there" that
will, again, look better than "here".
7. Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate
something about another person unless it reflects to you
something you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of life is up to you. You have all the tools
and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The
choice is yours.
9. Your answers lie inside you. The answers to life's questions
lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, trust.
10. You will forget all this.

Keep quiet, undisturbed, and the wisdom and the power will come
on their own..... Abandon all desires, keep your mind silent and
you shall discover..... Desirelessness is the highest bliss.
~I Am That Nisargadatta Maharaj
Reality is the Highest Order What is, is!
I have simply stopped arguing with reality. How do I know the
wind should blow? It's blowing. How do I know this is the
highest order? It's happening. Arguing with 'what is' is like
teaching a cat to bark. It's not very fulfilling. I am my friend
and no longer confused. The way I know that reality is good is
that when I argue the point I experience tension, fear and
frustration. I lose - not sometimes, but 100% of the time. It
just doesn't feel natural inside: no balance, no connection. I
want reality to change? Hopeless. Let me change my thinking.
Some of us mentally argue with 'what is.' Others of us attempt
to control and change 'what is,' and then tell ourselves and
others that we actually had something to do with any apparent
change that took place. This leaves no connection or room for
God in my life. In the peaceful experience of no opposition to
God, I remain aware of my nature: clear, vibrant, a friend, a
listener.
~Byron Katie
Once you realise that the person is merely a shadow of the
reality, but not the reality itself, you cease to fret and
worry. You agree to be guided from within and life becomes a
journey into the unknown..... If you just try to keep quiet, all
will come - the work, the strength for work, the right motive.
Must you know everything beforehand? Don't be anxious about your
future - be quiet now and all will fall into place.
~I Am That Nisargadatta Maharaj
When you find out that you are faced with danger-when you're
thinking, "What am I gonna do?"-see what happens if you say,
"I'm not worried about it. I don't have to do anything. It'll be
done." See what happens if you clear your mind and allow
yourself to do exactly what is necessary, exactly what is
correct. If you can do that, then when it's all over with,
you'll discover that you're just there; you're an observer. And
you'll discover that you've observed more than you've actually
participated-that you have learned to still your mind so that
the spirit can act. The spirit does not deliberate, only the
mind does, and this is what you'll discover.
~Vernon Turner
FOURTH LETTER OF BROTHER LAWRENCE
Writes of himself as of a third person, and encourages his
correspondent to press on to fuller practicing of the Presence
of God.
"I have taken this opportunity to communicate to you the
sentiments of one of our society concerning the admirable
effects and continual assistances which he receives from the
presence of GOD. Let you and me both profit by them.
You must know, his continual care has been, for above forty
years past that he has spent in religion, to be always with GOD;
and to do nothing, say nothing, and think nothing which may
displease Him; and this without any other view than purely for
the love of Him, and because He deserves infinitely more.
He is now so accustomed to that Divine presence, that he
receives from it continual succors upon all occasions. For about
thirty years, his soul has been filled with joys so continual,
and sometimes so great, that he is forced to use means to
moderate them, and to hinder their appearing outwardly.
If sometimes he is a little too much absent from that Divine
presence, GOD presently makes Himself to be felt in his soul to
recall him; which often happens when he is most engaged in his
outward business: he answers with exact fidelity to these inward
drawings, either by an elevation of his heart towards GOD, or by
a meek and fond regard to Him, or by such words as love forms
upon these occasions; as for instance, My GOD, here I am all
devoted to You: LORD, make me according to Your heart. And then
it seems to him (as in effect he feels it) that this GOD of
love, satisfied with such few words, reposes again, and rests in
the depth and center of his soul. The experience of these things
gives him such an assurance that GOD is always in the depth or
bottom of his soul, and renders him incapable of doubting it,
upon any account whatever."
Brother Lawrence
If we ourselves remain angry and then sing world peace,
it has little meaning. So, you see, first our individual self
must learn peace. This we can practice. Then we can teach
the rest of the world .
~The Dalai Lama
The method for abandoning the hold which duality has on con-
sciousness is not simple. The more comfort and pleasure
available
to man, the less his chance for a strong enough push to force
him to
give up even the temporary happiness of his achievements. And
yet
he must eventually do this ( internally ) to bring the full
focus of
consciousness to bear on the experience of the eternally
inherent
self or soul, with all its blissful freedom of real existence.
This is why God loves most the so-called destitute and helpless.
The greater the helplessness, the greater can and should be the
dependence upon God for His help, which is ever more ready than
are the sincere and earnest wishes for it. The greater the
bindings, the
greater the chances for quick, permanent relief, through fully
con-
scious experience of man's own original and everlasting freedom.
The unlimited and everlasting spiritual freedom of the self or
soul
exists eternally and infinitely in one and all, and is equally
available
to every man and woman irrespective of class, creed or
nationality.
Spiritual freedom can and does transcend all the illusory
phenom-
ena of duality, because divine Oneness is always divine Oneness,
before the beginningless beginning and beyond the endless end.
Contrarily, the illusion of all material binding from first to
last is
always illusion, and even its illusory existence depends upon
the play
of the eternal spiritual freedom of the soul.
It is only in spiritual freedom that one can have enduring
happiness
and unhampered self-knowledge. It is only in spiritual freedom
that
one finds the supreme certainty of truth-realization. It is only
in
spiritual freedom that there is a final end to sorrow and
limitation. It
is only in spiritual freedom that one can live for all, and yet
remain
detached in the midst of all activity.
~Listen Humanity Meher Baba
Spiritual maturity lies in the readiness to let go everything.
The giving up is the first step. But the real giving up is in
realising that there is nothing to give up..... To be, you must
be nobody. To think yourself to be something, or somebody, is
death and hell...... When you are no longer attached to
anything, you have done your share. The rest will be done for
you.
~I Am That Nisargadatta Maharaj
Great men are they who see that spiritual is stronger
than any material force, that thoughts rule the world.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Once you have seen that you are dreaming, you shall wake up. But
you do not see, because you want the dream to continue. A day
will come when you will long for the ending of the dream, with
all your heart and mind, and be willing to pay any price; the
price will be dispassion and detachment, the loss of interest in
the dream itself.
~I Am That Nisargadatta Maharaj
We look backward too much and we look forward
too much; thus we miss the only eternity of which
we can be absolutely sure - the eternal present,
for it is always now.
~William Phelps
if you distance yourself
only for an hour
from your endless thoughts
what do you think will happen
if you let yourself sink
just like a fish
into the ocean of our love
what do you think will happen
you are merely
a piece of straw
and we are
that eternal amber
if you leap forth
from your lowly house
to fuse with the amber
what do you think will happen
a hundred times
you've promised yourself
to depart from self-claim
to be humble as earth
only for once
if you keep your word
what do you think will happen
you're a precious
hidden diamond
sunken in the mud
if you wash away
all that impurity
from your gorgeous face
what do you think will happen
if you abandon
for a little while
your ego and greed
tear down your shield
rise with a quest
to unite with the divine
what do you think will happen
~ Ghazal (ode) 844
Translated by Nader Khalili
"Rumi, Fountain of Fire"
Cal-Earth Press, 1994
Fearful, always-moving mind,
the One who has no beginning
is thinking of how hunger
may fall away from you.
No ritual,
no religion
is needed.
Just cry out one
unobstructed cry.
~Lalla
14th Century North Indian mystic
this body's existence is like a bubble's
may as well accept what happens
events and hopes seldom agree
but who can step back doesn't worry
we blossom and fade like flowers
gather and part like clouds
worldly thoughts I forgot long ago
relaxing all day on a peak
~Stonehouse ( 4th century Chinese Taoist )
Self is always Present, Bliss is always Present.
You are not to work at attaining it,
just remove the obstacles by which you can't see it.
The hindrance is only one: Attachment to the past.
~Papaji
Every man is where he is by the law of his being; the
thoughts which he has built into his character have brought
him there, and in the arrangement of his life there is no
element of chance, but all is the result of a law which
cannot err. This is just as true of those who feel "out of
harmony" with their surroundings as of those who are
contented with them.
~James Allen - As a Man Thinkth
Egocentricity is the process of wanting something other than
what is.
Egocentricity means there is an "I" who is separate from
everything
else and doesn't like it; one thing is happening, but I want a
different thing to be happening. Egocentricity is that constant
concern with how I feel, what I think, what I'm doing, what I
want -
looking at what is and seeing it as inadequate.
My identity is maintained by the struggle of wanting something
other than what is; that is how I continue to know myself.
This practice involves finding a willingness to suffer in order
to end our suffering. Instead of spending our time trying to
avoid
suffering, we just find the willingness to go directly into it.
Whenever anything causes us to suffer, we can know two things:
suffering is the same as egocentricity, and when it arises, that
is our best opportunity to end suffering. As we open to our
suffering,as we embrace it, as we accept it, our relationship to
it changes. It is no longer something horrible, something to
escape
from. Suffering becomes just another opportunity, another chance
for
freedom.
Please find out about that for yourself.
~From "Trying to be Human" Cheri Huber, Ed. Sara Jenkins
The ego is like an iceberg.
Ninety percent of it is under water.
As we observe it, the submerged
begins to move into the light of observation,
and melts into the light of awareness.
~Meher Baba
There comes a time when an individual becomes irresistible and
his action
becomes all-pervasive in its effects. This comes when he reduces
himself to zero.
~Gandhi
Within the prison of your world appears a man who
tells you that the world of painful contradictions,
which you have created, is neither continuous nor
permanent and is based on a misapprehension. He
pleads with you to get out ot it, by the same way
by which you got into it. You got into it by forgetting
what you are and you will get out of it by knowing
yourself as you are.
~I Am That Nisargadatta Maharaj
