*Glossary-Index for A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
Study of the Course is facilitated by understanding its vocabulary.
Therefore
this Glossary-Index was prepared as a study guide for students.
Originally published in 1982, the Glossary-Index first presents
a summary
of the theory of A Course in Miracles with a listing of all
major terms in
the Course and the two scribed pamphlets, Psychotherapy: Purpose,
Process and
Practice and The Song of Prayer. This is followed by a
glossary of 135
terms along with their most important references in the Course, and an
index of more
than 800 scriptural references found in the Course, cross-referenced to
the Bible.
paperback, 349 pages
*A Talk Given on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
An Introduction
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This book provides an in-depth introduction to the principles of A
Course in Miracles.
It first explains the central ideas in the ego's thought system of sin,
guilt, and
fear, and its defenses of denial and projection. Next, the Holy
Spirit's thought
system of forgiveness is explained, showing specifically how it and the
miracle undo
the ego's chief defense against the Love of God: special relationships.
Included
also are chapters on the purpose of Jesus' life, and the story of how
the Course
came to be written.
*Forgiveness and Jesus
The Meeting Place of A COURSE IN MIRACLES and Christianity
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
Many students and would-be students of A Course in Miracles have found
the Course's
Christian context and emphasis on Jesus problematic, regardless of
their own religious
background. These problems have interfered with many students' study
and understanding
of the Course. In response to these difficulties, Forgiveness and Jesus
addresses
the misunderstandings of traditional Christianity, separating these out
from the
teachings of the Course, and emphasizes the importance of correcting
these errors
in the context of the two-thousand-year-old tradition.
Forgiveness and Jesus first discusses in depth the principles of A
Course in Miracles,
specifically focusing on the dynamics of the ego and the meaning of
forgiveness.
The book next presents the teachings of Christianity in the light of
the principles
of the Course, highlighting the similarities and differences.
Throughout the book,
special attention is given to the application of the Course's
principles to important
areas in our lives such as injustice, anger, sickness, sexuality, and
money. The
person of Jesus is also discussed in depth. The Appendix includes an
index of names,
a subject index, an index of examples, and a scriptural index.
*Awaken from the Dream
Gloria and Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This presentation of the basic ideas of A Course in Miracles serves
both as an introduction
to those new to the Course, as well as offering its long-time students
a unique approach
to the Course's teaching of "not making the error real." This important
principle cautions the student against using psuedo-problems as a
defense against
the true problem: separation. Beginning with an original cosmological
myth, Awaken
from the Dream emphasizes the application of this central
teachingñthe foundation
of forgivenessñto our everyday lives, in a spirit of
non-opposition and love.
*Absence from Felicity
The Story of HELEN SCHUCMAN and Her Scribing of A COURSE IN
MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This biography of Helen Schucman -- the scribe of A Course
in Miracles,
dictated by Jesus -- focuses on the lifetime conflict between her
spiritual
nature and her ego, and the relationship of this conflict to her
scribing of the
Course. The book includes extensive excerpts from Helen's own
recollections, the
personal messages she received from Jesus, and her dreams and
letters -- all
never before in print. Presented here as well is some of the personal
instructional
material from Jesus. This material constituted an integral part of the
original dictation
of the Course, which was later removed as directed by Jesus.
Absence from Felicity highlights the process of the Course's
scribing, Helen's
personal experiences of Jesus, and her relationship with William
Thetford, her close
friend and psychologist-colleague at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical
Center in
New York City, as well as her collaborator in the scribing of A
Course in Miracles.
The last part of the book contains reminiscences of Helen by Kenneth
Wapnick, the
author, which draw upon his intimate relationship with the scribe that
spanned the
last eight years of her life. Finally, in the context of Helen's
experiences, there
is a discussion of Jesus which focuses on the appearance and the
reality of our relationship
with him.
*The Most
Commonly Asked Questions
about
A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Gloria and Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
Our purpose in writing this book is to answer the most
frequently asked questions
that students of A COURSE IN MIRACLES have been asking ever since its
publication
in 1976. Over the many years we have been teaching the Course, it has
become apparent
that its radical message has often been a source of much confusion,
misunderstanding,
and distortion. It is our aim in this book to help clarify --
through this question-and-answer
format -- many of the Course's principles in order to facilitate
greater understanding
and application of its thought system.
(From the Preface)
The questions discussed in this book cover a wide range of topics,
among which
are the following: the metaphysics of Heaven; the metaphysics of
separation; the
applications of A Course in Miracles; Jesus; and the form,
language, and curriculum
of the Course. In addition to concise, yet comprehensive answers,
suggested readings
in the Course are listed for students interested in further study of
the issues.
*The Message of A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
The Message of A COURSE IN MIRACLES is a two-part work, the
purpose of
which is to provide a comprehensive overview of the teachings of A
Course in Miracles,
with discussion and guidelines on how to avoid some common
misconceptions of these
teachings. Volume One, All Are Called, could indeed carry the
subtitle, "What
A Course in Miracles Says," while Volume Two, Few Choose to
Listen,
could be subtitled "What A Course in Miracles Does Not
Say."
The focus of the first volume is therefore on what the Course actually
teaches, while
the sequel focuses on the ways in which students have misunderstood A
Course in
Miracles, not only believing it is teaching something it is not,
but also denying
what its message truly is.
The first book provides students somewhat acquainted with the teachings
of A Course
in Miracles with a summary which will help meet their needs for an
in-depth presentation
of the Course's principles, including a discussion of the practical
implications
of these principles with regard to religious and spiritual practice,
and ethical,
moral, and behavioral issues.
The purpose of Few Choose to Listen, as stated in the
Introduction is "to
guide students in how to avoid certain potential mistakes or confusions
as they read,
study, and implement into their daily lives the teachings of A
Course in Miracles.
Such sidestepping of errors will, it is hoped, be of help in clearing
the way for
the student to be more accessible to the Holy Spirit's 'particular care
and guidance'
(M-29.2:6)."
Volume One: 380 pages, Volume Two: 239 pages

*The Meaning of Forgiveness
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
Forgiveness is the central teaching of A Course in Miracles
and has almost
universally been misunderstood. In this workshop, its true meaning is
explained in
contrast to the distortions coming from the world's version, which has
made forgiveness
into a scourge rather than the path home to God. Through readings and
discussion
of examples, all forms of victimization are shown to be rooted in the
projection
of responsibility for our belief that we are separate from God's Love.
Forgiveness,
therefore, begins with looking at our experiences of victimization with
Jesus, who
then helps us see both their cause and their healing. These lie only in
our mind's
decision, either to be joined with his love or to remain separate from
it.

*The Simplicity of Salvation
An Intensive Overview of A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This workshop presents an in-depth summary of the principles of A
Course in
Miracles, with special emphasis placed on the two levels of the
Course's presentation.
It also includes a comparison of the Course and Christianity, and the
story of how
the Course was written.
Eight 90-min. tapes
*Healing the Unhealed Healer
Workshop on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
The discussion in this workshop centers on the characteristics of
the unhealed
healer, specifically: the investment in seeing differences and
separation, making
the error real, and depreciating the power of the mind. The healing of
the unhealed
healer's mind is seen as the willingness to join with Jesus in
understanding all
forms of sickness and problems to be calls for love mirroring one's own
call for
love, and then in accepting the Holy Spirit's loving answer to those
calls.
Eight 90-min. tapes
*Love Does Not Oppose
Gloria and Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This workshop discusses the important Course principle of not
making the error
of our belief in separation real by opposing the many forms of
separation encountered
in the world. The non-dualistic metaphysics of A Course in Miracles
is presented
in the context of the myth from Awaken from the Dream. The
Course's views
of time and special relationships are discussed as well.
Eight 90-min. tapes
*What It Means to Be a Teacher of God
Workshop on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
The discussion in this workshop is in three parts. The first
discusses the ten
characteristics of a teacher of God that are presented in the manual
for teachers.
The second discusses the teacher of God's temptation to use magic,
which solves problems
where they are not -- that is, in the body or the world --
and thus provides
a false sense of healing. Finally, true healing is explained as the
undoing of our
only problem, which is the decision in our minds to be guilty.
Six 90-min. tapes
*The Workbook of A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Its Place in the Curriculum - Theory and Practice
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
The nature of the workbook and its place in the curriculum of A
Course in
Miracles are discussed, with specific focus on the metaphysics
underlying the
lessons. The early lessons are examined to illustrate how Jesus
develops his theme
of the illusory nature of the external world. The mind-training aspect
of the workbook
is also explained. While helpful to beginning students, this album will
be of particular
interest to long-term students.
Eight 90-min. tapes
*THE SONG OF PRAYER: Prayer, Forgiveness, Healing
Workshop on the Pamphlet
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This workshop presents a line-by-line commentary on "The Song of
Prayer,"
the companion pamphlet to A Course in Miracles scribed by Helen
Schucman from
Jesus. The role of prayer is seen as reflecting the process of our
acceptance of
the true meaning of Jesus' presence in our lives. Jesus' relationship
with Helen
is presented as the model for understanding the nature and meaning of
prayer.
Ten 90-min. tapes
*The Origin of A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This is a presentation of the story of the scribing of A Course
in Miracles.
It consists of introductory comments, a portion of Tape 8 from "The
Simplicity
of Salvation," and reflections on Helen Schucman (the scribe) and
William Thetford
(her collaborator, colleague, and friend)..

*I Will Be Still an Instant and Go Home
Gloria and Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This is a collection of a meditation and two talks by Kenneth, and
one talk by
Gloria and Kenneth -- all given at various Sunday services. They
include: a
meditation on Jesus; "I Will Be Still an Instant and Go Home"; "Do
You Prefer that You Be Right or Happy?"; and "The Treasure of God."

*Sickness and Healing
Workshop on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
The discussion in this workshop focuses on the mind's decision to
be guilty as
the cause of all sickness, and the purpose sickness serves in the ego
thought system
as a defense against God's Love. Healing thus is seen as taking place
in the mind
rather than the body, and undoes our belief in the reality of guilt.
This is accomplished
by turning to the Holy Spirit, correcting our original mistake of
having turned to
the ego, and joining His healing thoughts of forgiveness.
One 30, seven 90-min. tapes
*The Web of Specialness
Workshop on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
In this workshop, specialness is explained as an attack on God and
as a defense
against our true Identity as His Son. There is a detailed discussion of
the pervasive
and insidious patterns of specialness in our lives, and the process of
forgiving
our specialness through willingness to join with Jesus in looking at it
honestly
and without judgment.
Twelve 90-min. tapes
*Duality as Metaphor in A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Workshop on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This workshop is a comprehensive study of what is to be taken
literally and what
is to be taken metaphorically in A Course in Miracles, and the
distortions
that result from not recognizing this difference between symbol and
fact. This is
explained in the context of the metaphysics of duality and separation,
and what Jesus
teaches about the world, joining, forgiveness, prayer, the Holy Spirit,
himself,
and the only reality: the non-dualistic oneness of God and Christ.
Eight 90-min. tapes
*I Want the Peace of God
Workshop on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This commentary on passages from the workbook and the manual
focuses on the idea
that wanting the peace of God is meaningful only when the decision
includes the willingness
to look openly with Jesus at our secret wish not to be peaceful, and
then with his
help choosing against this wish.
One 100-min. tape
*The Experience of A COURSE IN MIRACLES
A Commentary on "Development of Trust"
(Manual for Teachers)
Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
The theme of this workshop, held in September 1998, is the
exploration of the
six stages in the development of trust discussed in the section, "What
Are the
Characteristics of God's Teachers?" These stages represent the
transitions experienced
in the process of shifting one's trust in the ego's offerings to total
trust in the
offerings of Jesus or the Holy Spirit, culminating in the attainment of
the real
world. The emphasis throughout the workshop is on students' experience
of this process
of the Course, rather than on the simple intellectual mastery of its
principles.

*The Real World
A Two-Hour Edited Workshop on A COURSE IN MIRACLES
Gloria and Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.
This workshop focuses on the process of attaining the real world.
Beginning with
a basic explanation of the metaphysics of A Course in Miracles,
Gloria and
Kenneth Wapnick discuss the ego's wrong-minded correction through the
Holy Spirit's
forgiveness. The culmination of this process is the real world --
the state
of mind in which both the problem and the answer disappear, leaving
only the memory
of God's Love, exemplified in our world by Jesus.
This video is a two-hour edited version of V-3. Interspersed throughout
the workshop
are excerpts of an interview with Gloria and Kenneth. Audience
questions have not
been included in this version.
This workshop was held at the Foundation's Academy and Retreat Center
in June 1994.

*Seek Not to Change the Course
Reflections on A COURSE IN MIRACLESGloria and Kenneth
Wapnick,
Ph.D.
This seminar presents some of the more common misunderstandings of A
Course
in Miracles. Among the topics covered are the centrality of the
Course's non-dualistic
metaphysics in understanding its practical teachings on forgiveness,
and the importance
of students allowing themselves to expand to the Course's level, rather
than scaling
it down to theirs, which can only lead to a distortion of the Course's
teachings.
The program on this video tape consists of a 75-minute discussion of
some common
misunderstandings about the Course, followed by a 60-minute session of
questions
and answers. Among the more important themes covered is the centrality
of the Course's
teaching that God did not create the world, and the application of this
principle
to the Course's teaching on forgiveness.
This presentation took place in La Mirada, California, on June 10, 1986.
